  • Diaspora Health Mission Takes Off: Owerri Family Union USA Flags Off ImoCare Enrollment of 1,000 Beneficiaries Across Owerri

On Monday 20th April 2025, the Owerri Family Union, USA flagged off the enrollment of 1,000 beneficiaries into the ImoCare Health Insurance Program during its Medical Mission across the three LGAs in Owerri.

The landmark event was graced by the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Mrs. Chioma Egu, alongside the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA), Prof. Uchenna Ewelike, and other Members of the Imo Health Team.

The flag-off signals a practical step by the diaspora to shield vulnerable families from catastrophic health spending. Beneficiaries enrolled during the mission will access maternal care, emergency services, surgeries, and essential drugs at little to no cost at the point of care under ImoCare.

Prof. Ewelike described the intervention as “diaspora partnership at its finest — directly converting goodwill into health security for our people,” while commending the Union for aligning with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Universal Health Coverage vision and strengthening preventive and curative care at the grassroots.

The Owerri Family Union USA reaffirmed its resolve to sustain support for health equity, noting that the Medical Mission is only the first phase of broader community health interventions planned for Imo State.
