Agency Celebrates Prof. Uchenna Ewelike’s Legacy of Growth and UHC Expansion
The Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA) held an official handover meeting today 09/07/2026, marking the transition of leadership from Prof. Uchenna Ewelike, the immediate past Executive Secretary/CEO, to Dr. Donald Osita Eneh, the new Executive Secretary/CEO of the Agency.
Pictures from the handover show a warm, ceremonial exchange between the outgoing and incoming leadership, witnessed by IMSHIA management and staff.
Speaking during the handover, the management and staff of IMSHIA celebrated Prof. Ewelike’s remarkable service and invaluable contributions to the growth of IMSHIA over the past years.
Under his leadership, IMSHIA achieved:
1. Scale-up of ImoCare to over 2.7 million enrollees across all 27 LGAs.
2. Strengthening of 300+ accredited facilities and prompt claims payment system.
3. Positioning Imo as a national model for sub-national UHC, with presentations at health forums.
4. Digital transformation of enrollment, claims, and data management for transparency and efficiency.
5. Targeted coverage for vulnerable groups including widows, the elderly, and rural communities.
In his remarks, the outgoing ES/CEO said “It has been an honor to serve Ndi Imo. IMSHIA is now a household name because of the teamwork of staff, partners, and the trust of the people. I leave IMSHIA stronger and I am confident it will go farther.”
He also thanked His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State for giving his unalloyed support to his administration to ensure Imo State implements Health Insurance optimally.
The Agency also warmly welcomed Dr. Donald Osita Eneh as the new Executive Secretary/CEO.
Dr. Eneh brings extensive experience in public health, health systems management, and policy implementation. In his acceptance remarks, he pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by Prof. Ewelike and to deepen the Agency’s commitment to the Governor’s health agenda.
“I thank His Excellency and the IMSHIA team for this trust. We celebrate Prof. Ewelike’s giant strides. My focus is to ensure ImoCare remains accessible, affordable, and quality-driven so that every Imolite can access healthcare without financial hardship. The work continues towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.”
IMSHIA reaffirms its commitment to advancing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all Imolites under Dr. Eneh’s leadership, while sustaining the gains and innovations of the past administration.
