  • GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY SAVES ANOTHER INDIGENT PREGNANT MOTHER AS SHE DELIVERS THROUGH CS IN AMERICAN CANCER HOSPITAL IKEDURU LGA WITHOUT PAYING 1KOBO.

The Health Insurance Policy of the Imo State Governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma has continued to make impacts and touch many lives of Imo residents as the poor and vulnerable persons already enrolled in the BHCPF scheme have continued to receive free and quality healthcare services across the 305 INEC wards of the 27 LGAs of Imo State.
It is to be recalled that His Excellency, on the 4th of May activated access to care for the 66,003 vulnerable persons enrolled on the BHCPF and also flagged off the Formal Sector Social Health Insurance program which is set to cover civil servants in Imo State and the BHCPF program which has witnessed an unimaginable level of utilization going by the number of hospital visits and treatments recorded in the last three months.
On Monday, the 3rd of July, in one of the primary healthcare facilities at Akabo in Ikeduru Local Government Area, a pregnant mother, Chidimma Elegbom from Umuekpere Akabo Ikeduru who couldn’t deliver on her own at the facility was referred to American Cancer Hospital Ikeduru for a caesarean section. The caesarean section was successfully conducted and a baby girl was birthed and saved in the process, this happened at no cost as the joyous mother was discharged with her baby without paying 1 kobo.
Chidimma Elegbom who benefited from the free healthcare is a trader who sells fruits married to Mr Linus Elegbom, an Okada rider, therefore going by their economic status, maybe they would have sold land in the village or gone borrowing to be able to pay such an exorbitant amount of money running to the tune of N350,000.00 for the hospital bill.
Mr Linus Elegbom, the husband amid tears of joy thanked the Governor for the kind gesture to Ndi-Imo as he expressed profound gratitude to him for taking into account the hardship of the people and efforts made towards uplifting the lives and contributing to their well-being.
He revealed that he never envisaged his wife giving birth at American Cancer Hospital and being discharged without financial involvement from him given the high cost of accessing quality care from the hospital.
Yesterday, the head of Inspection Unit of the Imo State Health Insurance Agencyte Health Insurance Agency, who visited the mother and child at the secondary health care facility as a follow-up confirmed that the mother and child are in good condition and further revealed that a pint of blood was also administered to the mother as she will be discharged by tomorrow without paying 1kobo for the hospital bill.
The agency staff on inspection conveyed to the beneficiaries and the referring OIC the deepest gratitude and assurances of the Executive Secretary/CEO of Imo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Uche Ewelike. While he thanked them for keeping to the rules of the insurance policy, Dr Ewelike also promised that the good people of Imo State will continue to have value from the programme implementation in line with the Governor’s directive.
