The Senator representing Orlu Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Ozita Izunaso, has described the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme as one of the best achievements of the 3R Administration of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma.
He made this commendation while flagging off the ImoCare Health Insurance Programme for his constituents during the 3rd Edition of his empowerment program held on 6th January 2025 at his country home in Ohakpu, Oru West LGA, Imo State.
Senator Izunaso stated that the health insurance initiative reflects the Imo State Government’s strong commitment to improving access to quality and affordable healthcare for the good people of Imo State. He further noted that his intention is to key into the already established Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA) in order to expand access to quality healthcare services for his constituents.
He announced that he has made full payment for the enrollment of beneficiaries from the Orlu Senatorial District into the ImoCare Health Insurance Programme and urged residents across the 12 LGAs of the zone to take advantage of the healthcare largesse and enroll themselves.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary and CEO of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Uchenna Ewelike (Ph.D), described the flag-off as a significant milestone in Imo State’s journey toward Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. Ewelike, who used the opportunity to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma for prioritizing the health of Imo residents, noted that civil servants, pensioners, and vulnerable groups are already enrolled under the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme.
He highlighted the remarkable impact of the scheme, including thousands of recorded medical and surgical interventions and improved health outcomes across the state.
Dr. Ewelike also commended Senator Izunaso for sponsoring the enrollment of beneficiaries across the 12 LGAs of Orlu Zone, describing the gesture as a demonstration of visionary leadership that recognizes the strong link between health and sustainable development.
He further assured that all funds will be managed transparently and in line with global best practices, with beneficiaries assigned to designated primary healthcare facilities and referred to secondary or tertiary centres when necessary under IMSHIA’s referral protocol.
