The Imo State Health Insurance scheme is another laudable initiative of the Imo State government under His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma to alleviate
the suffering of the poor masses by ensuring that every citizen of Imo State has access to good healthcare services, no matter their financial conditions. The initiative being managed by the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, IMSHIA, headed by a renowned public health expert and health economist, Dr. Uche Ewelike, has helped thousands of indigent Imolites access good healthcare at no cost to themselves, after initial registration has been described variously by beneficiaries
and other experts as a lifesaving initiative.
As a way of showing concern for the health needs of his constituents, the member representing Ngor-okpala State constituency in the House of Assembly,
Hon. Obinna Egu facilitated the registration of 200 indigent constituents into the program.
With the sponsorship of annual insurance payment of 15,000 Naira for 200 indigent constituents drawn from across the 28 autonomous communities in the LGA,
Honourable Egu buys into the vision of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, GSSRS, in making sure that everyone has access to good healthcare,
especially, for low income earners and rural dwellers.
The 15,000 Naira shall afford the beneficiaries free treatment for malaria, typhoid fever, antenatal services, maternity care, including delivery through
caesarian section, abdominal surgeries, hypertension and diabetes care, etc.
Other Imolites with the financial wherewithal are encouraged to follow this footstep by sponsoring the enrolment of vulnerable citizens in their communities to
access this wonderful initiative.
